Every March the streets fill with shouts of "Hop on if you're tired!" and "Tea and snacks over here!". Then the firecrackers go off, the famous "Pink Supercar" (Mazu's sedan chair, so nicknamed for the pace it sets) comes flying past, and everyone presses their palms together to pray for her blessing.

This is Taiwan at its loveliest. The pilgrimage draws bigger crowds every year, and nobody ever knows which route the goddess will take, which is half the draw. Think festival-scale crowds, only everyone's following a deity rather than a headliner.

Technology moves fast, but Mazu moves faster. Devoted pilgrims got together and built the Baishatun Mazu GPS 🛰️, an app that shows her live location, checks the traffic nearby and even hosts a group chat with fellow walkers.

Behind that GPS sits some proper engineering. SMA connectors carry the radio-frequency signals between satellite and ground, and it's that stable signal that keeps Mazu's location pin accurate. The app has drawn even more people to the walk, and the whole event has become a cultural treasure.

IU concert 4K fancam

IU played Taiwan only last week and every UAENA on the island is still recovering 🥳 Missed her live? No matter. Any seasoned fan will tell you that a good 4K fancam still lets you watch your idol shine 🤩

Here's the bit you might not know: connectors have a part in those 4K fancams the fandom lives on. A 4K fancam is concert footage filmed directly in ultra-high definition, sharp enough that you can practically count your idol's pores 🤣

Inside all that filming kit, connectors act as bridges, carrying video, audio and control signals between devices. They're a different family from the RF connectors Chin Nan makes, but that's rather the point: connectors turn up everywhere 😏

So if you couldn't get a ticket, a fancam binge is a very decent consolation prize 🤭
